The act of going from dressed to nude is relatively easy. You simply keep taking items of clothing off until there is nothing left to remove. The hardest part is getting approval from the people around you. The problem for a lot of young people is that they don't have their own place to live and are bound by the rules of their parents. Some people are lucky enough to have understanding and open minded parents. If that's the case then the only obstacle in their way is overcoming any shyness or apprehension they might have. For whatever reason, many people feel they must keep their desire to be nude a secret. For many years I had a desire to be without clothes and kept it a secret from almost everyone I knew. During that time I did discover that it was quite easy to spend time nude without the knowledge of others. Although it was not possible to gain the full freedom that I craved, I was able to experience in small doses the kind of lifestyle I really wanted. The amount of freedom you have is dependent upon where you live. If you are in a city then you will have fewer options that if you were in the country with lots of wide open spaces. This page is really about telling you how I coped with different situations and getting you to think about the options open to you.
Sleeping nude seems to be how a lot of closet nudists start out. Everyone else is asleep and it's unlikely anyone is going to disturb you. I slept nude every change I could. As a way of keeping this secret from everyone I took my nightshirt to bed with me to make sure it got ruffled up in the night. If it had been complete crease free when mum got around to washing it then it would have given the game away. So, be careful to cover up all the little clues. My parents also had the habit of walking into my room without knocking so I had to make sure this changed. Without giving the game away and telling them my real intentions I told them I felt in need of a bit more privacy. They didn't have a problem with this and making sure they knocked before entering was an important step. It wasn't long after before I felt it would be safer and more secure with the door locked. Although they had gone by their word and knocked every time it would have been easy for them to forget and walk straight in without thinking. Locking the door did make a big difference and they didn't give me a hard time about wanting to do it either.
You can get away with quite a lot by being 'lazy' about certain things. When I got home from school I always took a shower. I got into the routine of not getting dressed and sitting downstairs to watch TV wrapped in a towel. It was something I could quote easily get away with by saying things like 'I'll get dressed later when this programme finishes'. If we had friends coming over then I'd get nagged to get dressed but most of the time it was easy to get away with. Putting on my nightshirt was preferable to getting dressed properly so that was my second choice. Most of my time at home in the two years leading up to me coming out of the closet was spend either in a towel of shirt. The good thing about wearing just a towel is that it's easy to get naked and 'dressed' again. When I went to my room to do homework, read or listen to music I locked my door and threw the towel on the chair. If anyone came to my room then it was easy to wrap it around myself and not have them suspect a thing.
Because we lived in the country and within easy walking distance of woods and fields it meant there were always plenty of places to go with the weather was nice. For some reason, being nude outside always felt much better than indoors. That may because my nudity was so much more obvious. When you can feel the slightest change in breeze and the texture of the ground under your feet you feel much more in contact with your environment. I loved walking in the woods. In the summer it was cool and a great place to relax. Having all those trees around gives you a lot of cover. Very few people visited the woods but if anyone did venture there it was not hard to avoid them and stay out of their way. I had some favourite trees and made myself a kind of nest in one of them. It was nothing special to look at and made from branches and leaves I'd found laying around on the floor. When lying up there is was impossible for anyone walking past to see me. I used to spend hours there and read many books in that spot. It was have been perfect if the sun reached that spot. Unfortunately it was too low and in the shade from the sun.
It was also good spending time wandering around in the fields. I had to be careful and make sure the area was really open. You might initially think that it's best to find an area that has lots of cover with hedges and things. That's not the case because it means people can approach you without realising. Before you know it they can be a few feet from you. If you are in a field with open space all around then you can easily see when people are near. It gives you plenty of time to dress or hide. Best of all is a corn field. It's very easy to hide but you can see in all direction. In the summer it's a great place to sunbathe and you have lots of cover from the wind.
At night time you can get away with being nude in more places. In the summer I often went (and still go) for a walk nude. Back then it was a little more risky because we lived on a housing estate whereas now we are a long way from the nearest house. 2am was about the best time to go out. There was hardy anyone around at that time of the day but even if someone was around it wasn't difficult to hide in someone's garden.
There are lots of options open to the closet nudist. I'm sure you can find loads of places in your area where it's possible to be nude. If we'd lived near a nudist beach then I most likely would have gone along there on my own. You may want to hide your nudism from your friends and family but there's nothing to stop you meeting other nudists or visiting clothing optional places.
