Hindu Mystics

Postby Gymnos42 on Sat Feb 06, 2010 9:48 pm

I just learned of an interesting group of Hindu mystics called the Sadhu known for an ascetic lifestyle that includes being nude or nearly nude most of the time. Wiki has a good article but this blog has a very interesting photo encounter with them.

In certain areas of India, Sadhus commonly wander around in their 'non-attached' state.

Thank you.
Its a pleasure to look at this Blog.
The male body is beautiful and it is rare in my life that I see males simply being themselves while nude: In person or in photographs.

Dreaming / Songlines
I am still struggling with some research of mine about the indigenous peoples in Australia. The Walkabout and Songlines, or Dreaming. Its a spirit dreaming for guidance, protection and knowledge of the past ones.

If you can find it, track down TEN CANOES. It's an actual Aboriginal film made by David Gupilill (sp?) and stars his son, Jamie, as well as their people in Northern Australia. Most of the men are nude throughout the movie. It's also a wonderful, quirky, funny, and very non-traditional story. View the trailer - and a few other snippets - on Youtube, and you'll see what I mean.

Btw, one of the main focal points to being a 'sadhu' is complete, non-attachment to the body - or anything else earthly, for that matter. Hence being naked 24/7 regardless of conditions like the weather. As with any large numbers of people practising religion, some sadhus are more detached and 'holy' than others.

I have the movie Ten canoes, it is a woderful fable of sorts, being careful about what you wish for as the theme. They poke fun at a different tribe member because he covers his manhood, and concur that he is not to be trusted as he has much to hide.

I'll keep a look out. Seen that title 'Ten Canoes' at Amazon.com; perhaps I'll commit to buy it.
Non-attachment is cool. Its what this naturist does in regards to clothing. :)
