New forum software

Postby Cat on Fri Jan 11, 2008 4:04 pm

There is a new version of the forum software that has been released. I've had a play around with it and it's really nice. There are lots of new features too. Yesterday I did a trial install and conversion of the forum (a copy of it on my PC) and everything seemed to be working fine. Tonight I'm going to do it for real so fingers crossed that it all works. The forum will be closed while this is happening. Once the conversion is complete it will be reopened. The work shouldn├óÔé¼Ôäót take more than a couple of hours but there are no guarantees. Work will start some time around midnight (UK time) so all being well you will see the change tomorrow morning. If things don├óÔé¼Ôäót go to plan then I├óÔé¼Ôäóll switch back to the current software.

Yeah. She should have decided to start at midnight Pacific Time ├óÔé¼ÔÇØ 8:00 a.m. in England. Then she'd have been working at a reasonable time in the morning, and we Yanks could have slept through it.

That didn't go quite according to plan. I'll have another go at it over the weekend.

That worked better. Everything should be working but please let me know if you notice anything wrong. It might take you a while to find your way around. You will find lots of new features in the 'User Control Panel'. You can do fancy things like choose which board members you would like to ignore.

Two questions on the new format. Tried the FAQ, but couldn't find
1. what do the topic icons with the stars and animated lines mean?
2. why do some replies start with RE, or even RE RE, but some don't?

mostly curious, but might be useful

I think the bots are just search engine's way of recognizing this site but i'm not sure on that one. What I'd really like to know is how to get the layout set back to having the body on the right and the avatar/name on the left >.<
